Plays on the lives of great persons

It will be organised by Orissa Sangeet Natak Akademi

It is first of its kind five-day event in the State

BHUBANESWAR: In a novel move, the Orissa Sangeet Natak Akademi has mooted an exclusive historical drama festival in the city.

The first event of its kind for the State, this five-day event would be mounted at the open-air auditorium in the Ekamra Haat here from March 26, informed Akademi secretary Mr.M.N.Satpathy.

The objective of the festival is to make the people aware of the pioneering contribution of these great sons of the soil in the freedom movement, he explained.

The plays would revolve round the lives and times of Jayee Rajguru, Buxi Jagabandhu, Chakara Bisoi, Surendra Sai and Krutibas Patsani.

Popular theatre groups

Established theatre organisations of the State have been roped in to produce the plays, Mr.Satpathy said.

It includes city-based Satabdira Kalakar and Sampark of Rourkela.

Interestingly, Law and Industries Minister B.B. Harichandan, a known dramatist himself, has scripted the play on Krutibas Harichandan.

Vadya Vichitra

The Akademi has also planned ’Vadya Vichitra’, an orchestra with traditional musical instruments of Orissa at the Ekamra Haat auditorium on March 18.

The event aims at providing patronage for the marginalised musical traditions of the State, the secretary said.
