The Team: Charter members of Rotary Club of Aranthangi, who were honoured by Rajadurai G. Michael, Rotary district governor.
ARANTHANGI: Silver jubilee celebrations mark a milestone for any organisation. More so for a service organisation that has been working for the cause of the needy, the poor and the downtrodden. Speakers at the silver jubilee celebrations of the Rotary Club of Aranthangi went down the memory lane to recall various services the Club had rendered at crucial times, since its inception. One of the charter-members of the Club and the Chairman of the silver jubilee celebrations committee L. Kailasanathan traced the origin of the club and explained its different phases of growth. Rural camps conducted in its initial phase earned the goodwill of not only the residents of the town but also the villagers in the periphery. The membership strength had increased from 29 in the beginning to 50, indicating the involvement of the people of different walks of life in contributing their mite for the Rotary movement in the town. The former Rotary District governor G. Gopal explained the efforts taken by the Club in encouraging students, police personnel, government employees and other persons for their efficiency and honesty. Several speakers, including G. Gopal, Damodaran and M. Ilangovan who had witnessed the growth of the club over the years, outlined its responsibilities. The governor of Rotary District-3000 Rajadurai G. Michael honoured the charter members of the Club – L. Kailsanathan, S. Pathmanaban, P. Sakthivel, S. Sivasamy and R. Govidasamy on the occasion. Shields were presented to individuals and institutions on the occasion in recognition of their achievements. The Government High School at Mangudi got the award for the ‘best school.’
