Medical camps for women today

KOCHI: The district health authorities have arranged for elaborate medical camps for women in three centres on Saturday, marking the International Women’s Day with the theme Survival to Success; Health to Success; Celebrate Her Life.

The inaugural function of the event will be held at the District General Hospital, where one of the camps will be held.

The Women and Child Hospital at Mattancherry and the Taluk Headquarters Hospital at Muvattupuzha are the other two venues of the medical camp.

Aiming to attract women between 15 and 45 years for early detection of any disease, the camp will have experts in General Medicine, Surgery, Gynaecology, Ophthalmology and ENT.

A team from the district centre of the Regional Cancer Centre, Kaloor, will also be part of the camp, where women will be given examination for breast cancer and cervical cancer besides taking a papsmear.

An X-ray and ultrasound facilities will be available at the camp . Laboratory facilities for detecting urine sugar and all the routine blood examinations also will be there. The authorities have sought cooperation of three medical colleges in the district for the camp. Two doctors from the Cooperative Medical College will attend to cases in Mattancherry, three doctors from Kolencherry Medical College will reach Muvattupuzha hospital and 12 doctors from Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences will be at the district hospital.

Seminars will be held as part of the programmes on the themes of Girl Child, Trafficking and Harassment of Women, Health and Nutrition. The seminar at the General Hospital will be inaugurated by Mayor Mercy Williams.
