PALANI: No traffic blocks, no lengthy convoys and no restrictions to the common man.

Puducherry Chief Minister N. Rangasamy’s visit to Sri Periyanayaki Amman temple here and participation in the annadhanam at the temple on Friday was without the usual official frills.

Clad in bright white khadi shirt and dhoti, Mr. Rangasamy, who is known for his simplicity, reached the temple around 1.30 p.m. and received the honours offered by the temple administration.

Later, he took part in special pujas and proceeded to the dining hall to launch the annadhanam.

He personally served the food to pilgrims, who had been waiting for an hour in the dining hall, and interacted with the organisers about the quality of food served to devotees.

Even as the Palani temple administration arranged food for him and his entourage at Dhandapani Nilayam, the Chief Minister expressed his willingness to sit under the thatched shelter on the temple premises and dine along with other pilgrims. Only plastic chairs and an aluminium sheet table was provided to him.

Without any hesitation, Mr. Rangasamy tasted the food. Collector R. Vasuki, Palani MP S.K. Karvendhan and HR and CE Joint Commissioner T. Rajamanickam joined him for lunch.

Only one police officer from Pondicherry accompanied him.

A few women and men constables and an inspector were on security duty in the temple for the Chief Minister’s visit. Over 300 pilgrims from various places took part.

After a brief rest, he went to the hill temple to have dharshan of Sri Dhandayuthapaniswamy. Later, the Chief Minister proceeded to Pollachi.
