Taxi operators’ plea to Centre

PUDUCHERRY: The Taxi Ottunargal Sangam, affiliated to the Indian National Trade Union Congress, on Friday appealed to the Union Home Ministry to issue necessary directions to the territorial administration for setting up Road Transport Department’s check posts in bordering villages of Puducherry.

In a letter to Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil, Sangam vice-president N. Balu said private vehicles from outside the territory operated as taxis in the absence of check posts. —Staff Reporter
