Special Correspondent

VILLUPURAM: The Villupuram police on Friday shot at a man allegedly involved in the kidnapping of an elementary school teacher on Thursday. Sellapandian (37), was on his way to his school, located at Avipudur in Tirukkoilur block, on Thursday morning when a Tata Sumo with about 11 persons blocked his way and abducted him.

The teacher’s wife, Amirtham, received a phone call demanding a ransom of Rs.20 lakh for his release. She informed the police, following which Superintendent of Police A. Amalraj constituted two special teams to trace the offenders. While Mr. Amalraj led one team, Gerald Robinson, Sub-Inspector, led another team. The abductors constantly kept in touch with Ms. Amirtham. The gang finally asked Ms. Amirtham to come to Veliyanur at Maiylam and hand over the cash.
