WISE WORDS: Collector R. Vasuki addressing the annual day at M.V.M. Government Arts College for Women in Dindigul on Friday. DINDIGUL: Control of mind, achievable ambitions, perseverance and hard work alone will help one achieve the desired goals. Will power is equally essential, Collector R. Vasuki said here on Friday. Delivering the keynote address at the annual day of M.V.M. Arts College for Women, she said opportunities for women were high in the knowledge-driven global job market. They must equip themselves to tap it. Even as medical and engineering were considered as remunerative professions, arts graduates too had a greater role to play in society. While technologists developed the country’s economy, arts graduates could create a harmonious society. They could bring a change in the mindset of people and ensure they that lived in harmony and peace. Mind controlWhat the young girls needed was control of mind, Ms. Vasuki said. The mind should not be allowed to deviate from the desired goals. It should not be restricted to getting a job and “settling” down in life. They must aim for bigger goals such as empowering their rural counterparts, educating illiterates, protecting environment and creating awareness among the rural poor on health and other social issues. They must share love and affection with others and show mercy to poor and the downtrodden. There would be no end to such services. “You will get neither tired nor disgusted while doing such noble services. There will be no retirement also,” she said. Women must become decision makers in life as well as in their profession. A strong mind alone would help them take the right decision at the right time. Spiritualism and meditation would make the mind strong and calm. Without a calm mind, a right decision was not possible, the Collector said. Principal Mohammad Yusuf presided. Later, the Collector honoured meritorious professors and teachers.
