An ambitious programme for development of atomic energy is being undertaken by the Government of India in 1958-59. The Government of India has made provisions for a number of projects that are considered essential for the implementation of the atomic energy development programme. Provision has been made for the expansion of the thorium uranium plant at Trombay and to take over the pilot plant at Ghatsila for the extraction of uranium from copper tailings. It is proposed to start a mining colony near Tatanagar where the Atomic Energy Division has undertaken extensive mining operation for atomic minerals.
