What men say about the day

Here comes the International Women’s Day, a day for recognizing the achievements of ordinary women who have played an extraordinary role in the history of women’s rights.

A day dedicated to the world of women irrespective of their national, ethnic, linguistic, cultural, economic or political identity.

See Through

Actually the day started as a political event with the demand of human rights in 1909. But slowly lost its political flavor and blended as a cultural event.

Now Women in various countries celebrate the day in a collective manner in merriment. In some places the day has got the participation of other gender too. In Russia and United States men and boys are expected to bestow their love and gifts to the women in their lives.

Let us too try this in our hometown. A cross section analysis of our society will unmask the thinking pattern of our society in large. Some of our men folks have voiced their opinion about the day and the celebration by women groups.

Other End View

“Women in our society are mostly confined to their houses. They are not let out for anything. So let them have a day to come out and celebrate” says Mr.Suresh who owns a medical shop in the city.

“Everybody has got a day, why not a women?” resounded Mr.Chandrasekar an 80 plus senior citizen who extended his support stating “I recognize the day. Women seek liberation.” He finally uttered, “freedom for women to a certain limit is a welcome sign, but not more than that. Likewise the way of celebration has to be reconsidered.”

Many youngsters including college students resounded “what women’s day? It is for someone and not me. It seems to be a day for female to hangout.” Most of them had nothing more to say about the day. What they see is televisions and magazines projecting the day in a grandiose style.

Joint Venture

“As a female is under the cultural clutches throughout the year at least a single day freak-out for a woman will give her an outlet. But I would say that one day happiness is insufficient.

For women to be independent all the way there pertains another being. Men are the beings who are mostly unaware of the respect a woman deserves. So a step forward by women groups toward sensitizing men is essential. And that could be a part of women’s day celebration” evaluated Mr.Stalin Rajangam a social critic in the town.

The progress women have attained has got an untold story behind it. But in recent times the emphasis has turned from political empowerment to rejoicing beauty and motherhood among women themselves.

Whereas from men’s point of view they have begun to realize the fact the women are capable of performing and achieving. Still they decide the limit and draw the line of control.

The development of women is not an isolated activity but a triumph to humanity and participation of men in the upliftment of women is very important.
