CHENNAI: A four-day industrial expo, ‘Access ’08’, showcasing a range of products got under way at the Chennai Trade Centre in Nandambakkam on Friday.
The exhibition, being organised by the Tamil Nadu Small and Tiny Industries Association (TANSTIA), was inaugurated by Mayor M. Subramanian.
The event intends to bring new technology to Tamil Nadu’s entrepreneurs, said G. Balakrishnan, Chairman of Access ’08. About six software companies were also participating to highlight the integration of engineering with information technology. Small and medium entrepreneurs have also begun using Enterprise Resource Planning systems, he said.
The recently-announced policy on small scale industries was a first for the sector and was expected to stimulate a boom, said A. Shanmugavelayuthan, president, TANSTIA. Several thousand jobs would be generated in the next few years, he said.
He said the tiny and small scale industries required access to new technology, products and software.
