Natyanjali begins on colourful note
Special Correspondent
CHIDAMBARAM: The 27th chapter of Natyanjali, a dance festival, was inaugurated at the Lord Natarajar temple here on Thursday.
Organised by the Natyanjali Trust, the annual event has attracted performing artists from across the country as well as abroad.
Inaugurating the event, C.V. Chandrasekaran, executive member of the Sangeet Natak Akademi, New Delhi, said being a part of the Chidambaram Natyanjali was the ambition of many an artist.
Mr. Chandrasekaran fondly recalled his maiden performance at the event, adding that it was a great honour to participate in the fete.
Trust president A.K. Natarajan said though dance festivals were being organised in other parts of the State, the Chidambaram Natyanjali held a special place among the artists.
The popularity and reach of the event was widespread, he added.
Trust secretary A. Sambandam said young artists would be encouraged. Visitors would get to see 60 Bharatanatyam, Kathak, Kuchipudi, Odissi and Sattriya Chhau performances over the five-day event.
