Irom Sharmila released

Imphal: A court here on Friday released from judicial custody Manipuri social activist Irom Sharmila, who has been fasting for seven years demanding scrapping of the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, 1958, in the State.

The 37-year-old activist, who had been in the J.N. Hospital and force-fed through the nose for the past few years, was released by Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate R.K. Memcha.

She had been arrested on the charge of suicide attempt.— PTI
