Training being imparted for women in entrepreneurship development

About 800 women had been trained in Bijapur and Gulbarga districts

BANGALORE: The Association of Women Entrepreneurs of Karnataka (AWAKE) has organised a five-day international summit on trade, expo and business to business (b2b) from May 28.

Addressing presspersons here on Friday, president of AWAKE Sudha Prakash said that the association was taking up intensive training for women in entrepreneurship development under various government schemes.

The association was giving thrust on capacity building, credit and market linking to the women entrepreneurs. The modules of women entrepreneur development that had been tested by various organisations were being used for training. She said the association had trained women in Bijapur and Gulbarga, where the field of women entrepreneurship was just opening up.

About 800 women had been trained in entrepreneurship development in those districts out of which 30 per cent had become successful entrepreneurs, she said.

In Bangalore, the success stories included that of Jyoti Balakrishna, who had been trained by AWAKE.

He had established a 100 per cent export oriented unit dealing in garment embroidery. There were success stories also from Chitradurga, Bijapur, Gulbarga and other places, mainly in food processing and garment processing units, she said.

Earlier, Commissioner for Industrial Development Rajkumar Kathri and Secretary, Women and Child Development, Shalini Rajneesh participated in a programme to release an information brochure on the summit.
