Loan distributions mark Women’s Day

Andhra Bank distributes Rs. 1 crore loans to 30 women SHGs

Doing their bit: Dy.General Manager, Andhra Bank deputy general manager, Tirupati, Prasanna Phanikar, distributing cheques to women beneficiaries in Tirupati on Saturday.

Tirupati: International Women’s Day was observed in Tirupati with enthusiasm. The Centre for Women’s Studies in the Sri Padmavathi Women’s University organised a colloquium on women issues. With Prof. G. Sarojamma, Vice-Chancellor of the University participating as the chief guest, well-known women of the temple city holding different positions articulated their views on a wide range of topics concerning women, their rights, social and domestic vulnerabilities and so on.

The Department also organised a programme to create awarness on road safety norms.

Andhra Bank celebrated the Day by disbursing loans to a tune of Rs.1 crore to 30 women SHGs through its Beri Street branch, Rs.75 lakhs through its Tiruchanoor branch and Rs.30 lakhs through its SV Medical College branch under the Bank’s ‘Mahila Sowbhagya Scheme’. Deputy General Manager of the Bank Prasanna Phanikar distributed the cheques to the beneficiaries and highlighted the various women-oriented schemes being extended by the bank.

The Tirupati Municipal Corporation where an election is round the corner chose to celebrate the day by disbursing loans to individual women and SHGs under various schemes including the ‘Paavala Vaddi’ scheme. With the Municipal Commissioner Mohan Reddy presiding, Tirupati Congress MLA M. Venkatramana distributed cheques and related documents to beneficiaries. In all loans/bank linkages etc to a tune of Rs.2.37 crore were distributed on the occasion by the Corporation.

Competitions held

The Abhaya Kshethram, a rehabilitation centre for differently-abled children conducted competitions for women in making different nutritional dishes using mainly greens to drive home its message that malnutrition also is a major causative for physical disabilities.

Other organisations which celebrated the day were Lions Club, Obstetrics and Gynaecological Society, NSS Unit of the SV Medical College, PRERANA, Sathya Sai Mahila Mandali.
