Education a sensitive subject, says Arjun Singh

Staff Reporter

KOLLAM: Union Minister of Human Resource Development Arjun Singh has said that education is a very sensitive subject and under no circumstance will it be allowed to become a tool in the hands of communal forces.

He was delivering the keynote address at a public meeting organised in connection with the Yuva Paksham programme of the Kerala State Muslim Youth League here on Saturday.

Mr. Singh said the nation could not afford to allow communal forces to use education to divide the country. He said there was a separate judicial commission in his department to ensure that all minorities in the country got their constitutional rights. In spite of efforts to weaken the commission, there was no doubt that it would deliver results.

He said elections would be held soon and the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) and the Kerala State Muslim Youth League should ensure their support to progressive forces led by the Congress. Only their victory would take India to progress, he said.

He said his plea was to ensure that separatist elements did not succeed in dividing the country. He said the relationship between the IUML and the Congress would continue for a long time to come.
