Training in mosquito control measures

Staff Reporter

For students, health and sanitary workers

NAMAKKAL: The district administration has decided to train students, health and sanitary workers and other field staff in mosquito control measures.

The decision was taken at a meeting organised as part of the campaign called ‘Our Health is in Our Hands’ here recently. The campaign would be on in the district till March 15.

The officials had decided to involve the students, public health personnel and members of non-governmental organisations in identifying the places of mosquito breeding and initiate anti-larval measures.

The administration had also planned to make the village health committee president and members aware of mosquito control measures and train them in anti-larval measures.

Chairing the meeting, Collector G. Sundaramurthi warned that severe action would be initiated against persons polluting the environment. Deputy Director of Health R. Sampathkumar also spoke. Elected representatives and officials of various departments attended.

Earlier, participating in another meeting, Mr. Sundaramurthi said that the administration was continuously monitoring and extending support to rescued child workers.

The administration had formed 43 self-help groups comprising parents of the rescued children as members and extended financial assistance to take up income generation activities. Further, it had trained 257 parents in tailoring and sewing machines were distributed to them free of cost.

The administration had carried out 69 joint inspections and 696 special inspections in the district to identity children employed in industrial units and rescue them. Over 1,800 children were studying in the special schools run by the Indo-US project for child labour abolition, he added.

District Revenue Officer G. Govindaraj and senior officials were present.
