The project likely to be completed in 30 months A school for deaf and dumb children to be constructed NEW DELHI: The Expenditure and Finance Committee of the Delhi Government has cleared three new proposals, including the Rs.654.39-crore Ring Road by-pass project from Salimgarh Fort to Velodrome Road that would be constructed within 30 months from the date of award of work. Finance Minister A.K. Walia, who chaired the EFC meeting, said the by-pass project had already been cleared by the high-power Samadhi Committee, Union Ministry of Urban Development, Delhi Urban Art Commission, Yamuna Samiti, Yamuna-Removal of Encroachment Monitoring Committee, Delhi Development Authority’s Technical Committee, Delhi Traffic Police and the Delhi Police. The project would provide an alternative route on Ring Road and ease traffic congestion between Hanuman Mandir and I. P. Depot. It would also facilitate smooth flow of VVIP traffic up to Raj Ghat where they visit to pay homage to the Father of the Nation during their visits to Delhi. The EFC has also authorised the PWD to ensure possession of land belonging to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, the DDA, the Railways, the Delhi Police and the I&FC Department within six months to facilitate construction of the project. The Committee also cleared a proposal of the Social Welfare Department for construction of a primary school building for deaf and dumb children at Nehru Vihar at an estimated cost of Rs.5.55 crore. This centre would be constructed within 15 months. It has also approved the laying of 4-cm-thick bituminous concrete surfacing of road on a 14.4-km section of the Dhansa-Najafgarh Road from Dhansa Border to Mitraon village at an estimated cost of Rs.9.16 crore. The carpeting of the road would provide better connectivity for movement of vehicles and benefit a large number of villages in the region.
