The scheme will be implemented from April 1 Policy-holders to pay Rs. 10 as service charge HYDERABAD: Continuing the spree of welfare programmes, the State government is gearing up to provide insurance cover for agricultural labourers and landless poor from April 1. Christened Indira Life Insurance Scheme, the initiative is aimed at providing Rs. 75,000 in case of accidental death or permanent disability, Rs. 37,500 for partial disability and Rs. 30,000 in the event of natural death to the families of policy holders. In addition, two children of the beneficiaries, studying from IX to Intermediate, would be provided scholarship of Rs. 1,200 a year. Sharing of premiumThe State and the Central governments would equally share the premium amount of Rs. 200 each for 38 lakh members proposed to be covered under the scheme with an estimated Rs. 76 crore. Policy-holders should pay a nominal Rs. 10 a year as service charge to the respective village samakhya, according to an official release. Enrolment of policy-holders would be taken up between March 10 and 18 and the final list of beneficiaries, accepted by gram sabhas on March 18, would be handed over to the DRDA. Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy had decided to handover the first cheque of Rs. 38 crore to the Life Insurance Corporation through AICC president Sonia Gandhi at Jaggampet on March 14.
