4,51,470 students to take SSLC exam

Change in time schedule

Thiruvananthapuram: The scheduling of the examinations from 1.45 p.m. is the major reform being implemented for the SSLC examinations this time.

The examination will begin on March 12 and end on March 27. Some 4,51,470 students will be appearing for the examination this year, 2,22,991 boys and 2,28479 girls.

In addition to them 14,479 students will be appearing for the examination under the private new scheme.

The break up based on medium of instruction is as follows : Malayalam medium — 3,86,171, English medium — 59,411, Tamil medium — 2,366 and Kannada medium — 3,522.

The extremes

Among the educational districts, Tirur in Malappuram revenue district accounts for the largest number of students —34,424 (17,043 boys and 17,381 girls.

The Kuttanad educational district has the lowest number of students — 2,537 (1,315 boys and 1,212 girls). Among the revenue districts, Malappuram tops the list with 70,059 students, 34,661 boys and 35,398 girls.

The Wayanad revenue district has the lowest number of 10,353 students of whom 5,001 are boys and 5,352 girls.

Exam centres

There will be 2,723 examination centres this time, with 15 in the Gulf countries and nine in Lakshadweep. There are in all 2,836 high schools. Clubbing facility is being provided in 113 schools

That the question papers will be kept in treasuries or the leading branches of nationalised bank is another important reform being implemented this time.

The question papers have already reached the DEO offices. Steps are being taken to take them from these offices to the treasuries and bank branches based on the date of examination and the subject.

Cluster system

Centralised cluster system has been brought into effect in all DEO offices for the purpose.

There will be six to ten schools under each cluster. The officer concerned will take the question papers directly to the treasuries and banks and collect them directly on the date of the examination.

He will also hand over the question papers to the Chief Superintendents of the examination centres.

Monitoring cell

A State-level monitoring cell will function in the Pareeksha Bhavan and district monitoring cells at the district-level for ensuring the smooth handling of the question papers.

The latter will be headed by the District Collectors and will consist of the Deputy Director of Education, Superintendent of Police and the District Treasury Officer. They will supervise the arrangement and solve problems connected with the distribution of question papers at the local level.
