Bangalore: Twenty-seven-year-old debut Marathi film director Mangesh Hadawale was conferred the Lankesh Film Award-2008 for the film “Tingya.” Filmmaker Girish Kasaravalli presented a silver medal and cash award of Rs 10,000 to Mr. Hadawale at a function here on Saturday. The award was instituted by the Lankesh group led by Kavitha Lankesh, daughter of the late P. Lankesh. “Tingya” deals with issues related to farmers by portraying a boy and his bull. Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Hadawale said that he was aware of the problems faced by farmers as he hailed from such a family. His parents were still engaged in farming at a village in Maharashtra, he said. “Tingya” had bagged the Best International Marathi Film Award in the recently concluded Pune Film Festival. Farmers’ problemsMr. Kasaravalli, who was a member of the jury which selected “Tingya” for the award from among 17 films, said that Mr. Hadawale had succeeded in portraying the difficulties faced by the faming community through a simple and natural presentation.
