Abkhazia calls for independence

MOSCOW: Georgia’s breakaway Abkhazia region on Friday asked the international community to recognise its self-proclaimed independence, according to reports reaching here.

The Abkhaz regional legislature has adopted an appeal to the United Nations, the European Union, the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe and all countries asking for recognition, Russia’s Interfax news agency reported. — Xinhua
