Licence hinges on compliance of norms

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: The Bangalore International Airport at Devanahalli, scheduled to commence operations from March 30, could be denied licence to operate if the Air Traffic Control (ATC) does not comply with the stipulated norms.

Sources in the Government said that the Union Civil Aviation Ministry may not even issue provisional licence for the airport to function. “The ATC is the real brain of the airport and is part of the licence agreement. How can we give even provisional licence for the airport to function without the ATC parameters being complied with? Provisional licence can be issued only if there are minor problems,” the sources said.

Meanwhile, the sources said that the decision whether to allow the airport to commence commercial operations from March 30 or not would be taken in a couple of days.
