Bangalore: Former India skipper Sourav Ganguly underwent fitness tests at the National Cricket Academy here on Saturday. Ganguly spent his time at the NCA undergoing tests conducted by the academy’s support staff Paul Chapman and Paul Close. Ganguly later left for Kolkata in the afternoon. Ganguly’s tests are part of a series of fitness assessments done as a prelude to the forthcoming three-Test series against South Africa. Earlier in the week, Anil Kumble, Rahul Dravid, V.V.S. Laxman, Wasim Jaffer, V.R.V. Singh, Pankaj Singh and R.P. Singh were also tested at the academy. R.P. Singh was also present here on Saturday. The NCA’s director of operations Dav Whatmore will submit the final fitness report to the BCCI, prior to the selection of the Test squad here on March 17. It is reliably learnt that the senior trio of Kumble, Dravid and Laxman have cleared their routine tests and the only doubt is over seamer Pankaj’s fitness. Pankaj is nursing a side strain. — Principal Correspondent
