Parents of schoolgirl to file complaint

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: The controversy over corporal punishment allegedly meted out to a Sophia High School student has taken a new turn with her parents expressing their intention to initiate fresh criminal proceedings against the teacher.

“I will file a private complaint in the court or a complaint in the police station. The reputation of my daughter is at stake,” K.N. Venkatesh, father of the nine-year-girl who was allegedly harassed by a teacher, told presspersons here on Saturday.

“I withdrew the complaint keeping the interests of my daughter’s education in mind. At a meeting with the school authorities it was decided that no statements should be issued to the media,” he said. “As they have gone to the media, we are also presenting our version,” he said.
