NEW DELHI: Organised by the ITC Sangeet Research Academy (ITCSRA), the 36th two-day Sangeet Sammelan concluded at the Kamani Auditorium here on Sunday.

The event presented several renowned performers such as vocalists Vidushi Girija Devi and Ustad Mashkoor Ali Khan and sitarist Pandit Manilalal Nag. Proponents of Carnatic music such as the Malladi brothers, veena exponent Rajhesh Vaidya and violin maestro D. K. Datar also gave soul-stirring performances of their musical skills.

Speaking on the occasion, ITCSRA executive director Vidyadhar Vyas said: “Delhi is the perfect venue for this Sammelan as the city reflects the hallowed and historical traditions of Indian art and culture. This particular event is a tribute to legendary musicians Ustad Chand Khan.”

A unique initiative for providing corporate patronage to Hindustani classical music with the objective of preserving it, the event is a tribute to the rich legacy and deep-rooted tradition of indigenous musical forms.

“The primary objective of the event is to nurture young talent and help music scholars to blossom into artistes of national and international repute. For this purpose, a series of musical conferences will be conducted in India as well as abroad to reach out to music lovers,” said the executive director.

The ITCSRA is also a unique example of the traditional Indian system of teaching that stresses on the “guru-shishya parampara” that encourages the disciple to live with his guru and imbibe musical qualities simultaneously.

Several students of the ITCSRA have graduated to become gurus in their own right. These include Ustad Rashid Khan and Pandit Ajoy Chakrabarty.
