Portraying the lives of five playwrights

DHARWAD: Five plays based on the lives of noted playwrights from Dharwad including Keertinath Kurtakoti, Shreeranga, V.K. Gokak, G.B. Joshi and D.R. Bendre will be presented during the “Sharandevari naavu dharawadaka” theatre festival that will begin here on Monday.

The Karnataka Nataka Academy, the Department of Kannada and Culture and “Sharanandevari naavu dharawadaka natakotsava samiti” have jointly organised the festival that will go on till March 14 at the Dr. Annajirao Sirur (Srujana) Rangamandir.

Five-day festival

Dharwad district convener of the academy samiti B.I. Iliger and convener of the natokotsava samiti Sameer Joshi said in a release here that an attempt would be made during the five-day festival to present the lives of the great dramatists of Dharwad through the plays.

Litterateur and theatre critic G.S. Amur will inaugurate the festival at 6.30 p.m. on Monday. On the inaugural day, the play “Chandragupta” based on the life of Keertinath Kurtakoti will be presented by Kriyasheela Geleyaru.

The plays “Adhikamasa” on Sreeranga by Puppet House, “Tungeyinda gangeyavarege” on V.K. Gokak by Samudaya, “Jadabharatana Kanasugalu” on G.B. Joshi (Jadabharata) by the G.B. Memorial Trust Troupe and “Ambikatanayadatta” on D.R. Bendre by Samskara Bharati would be presented in the next four days.
