THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Theeradesa Mahilavedi, the women’s wing of the Kerala Swathantra Matsya Thozhilali Federation, has warned that it will resist any move to relocate fishermen and their families from the coastal areas. A meeting organised by the Mahilavedi here on Saturday alleged attempts by the State and Central governments to displace fisherfolk from their coastal settlements in the name of tourism development. Speakers at the meeting said they would mobilise the coastal residents for a resistance movement. The meeting alleged that women from the coastal areas employed in various firms located at the Kinfra Apparel Park, Thumba, were being heavily exploited. Theeradesa Mahilavedi district president Elizabeth Antony presided over the meeting. V. Sivankutty, MLA, inaugurated the function.
