Staff Correspondent

Rs. 9.5 cr. released for establishment of trauma care unit

Government has released Rs. 28 lakh

Neonatal Intensive Care unit to be

set up

Chitradurga: The district hospital is busy making arrangements to operationalise the Ayurveda, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy (AYUSH) centre here.

Speaking to The Hindu, district surgeon Kamareddy said the centre would be ready in a month.

The Government had released Rs. 28 lakh for the project, which was being used for constructing a building and purchase of equipment and medicines. Elaborating on the projects being taken up at the hospital, he said a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) was in the process of being set up.

He said the aim of NICU was to give treatment to newborn babies and to prevent neonatal deaths or medical problems after birth.

Convenience

“In the absence of a specialised centre at the hospital, patients are forced to go to private hospitals in an emergency. The centre will attend to such problems and help save time and money,” he said.

Tender invited

Mr. Kamareddy said a tender had been floated for supply of equipment. He expressed the hope that the centre would start functioning by the end of March.

On the Union Government’s plan to establish a trauma care centre, Mr. Kamareddy said work in progress.

20-bed unit

The Government had released Rs. 9.5 crore to set up a 20-bed centre.

The old maternity centre located inside the hospital would be demolished to pave way for the new trauma care centre.

Funds

A sum of Rs. 80 lakh would be spent towards it, he said and added that by the next financial year, the trauma care centre would start functioning.
