DHARWAD: The nine-day “Dharwad Book Fair” ended here on Sunday. Fifty publishers and booksellers from various parts of the country participated in the book fair held at the Karnatak College Ground. The National Book Trust, India (NBT), an autonomous organisation under the Department of Secondary and Higher Education, Ministry of Human Resource Development, organised the book fair in association with the district administration and the Karnataka Publishers’ Association, Bangalore. Good salesThe fair attracted many readers from various age groups and most of the publishers registered good sales. The Regional Manager (Southern Region) of NBT, T. Mathanraj, told The Hindu that the sales during the fair had crossed the Rs. 1crore mark. Sampathkumar, in-charge of the accounts section of (Southern Region) of NBT, said though the book fair was supposed to be held in November and December, non-availability of venues for the event had forced the organisers to postpone it. However, the response to the fair was overwhelming, he said He said that the response had encouraged the organisers of the event to plan a similar book fair outside Bangalore during the next financial year. “We are looking at Hubli and Shimoga as the probable venues. It is premature to make any announcement,” he added.
