Reservations for BC staff
Apropos the news item ‘Chalo Parliament’ (The Hindu Feb.25) the backward classes faced great injustice over the years and reservation for BC employees in promotions in both State and Central Government is long overdue. Reservation is observed while selecting candidates for professional colleges. It is also observed during initial recruitment into Government service. But for one reason or the other the they are put down in the seniority list denying promotion. The SCs and STs employees are protected from such adverse treatment. The same concession may be shown to BCs.

Strengthen poultry industry
The Indian poultry industry is growing at a rapid pace during the past few years.
It is estimated that at present the livestock and the poultry sector contributes about 30 per cent of the GDP of the agriculture and allied activities. The poultry industry operates on low margin high turnover basis.
The high yields are generally susceptible to disease. There is need to strengthen poultry disease diagnostic laboratories particularly at district headquarters for proper diagnosis and timely action to check the spread of disease. These measures will go a long way in adding muscle to the poultry industry.
