BERHAMPUR: State Law Minister Biswabhusan Harichandan on Sunday urged the striking lawyers of the Ganjam Bar Association to end their cease work agitation at least for the benefit of the common people, who have been suffering due to their strike. The lawyers of the Ganjam Bar Association have been on strike for the last three months demanding establishment of a High Court bench for south Orissa in the city. The courts in the city remain closed and the public are suffering due to it. Hundreds of persons are languishing in jail as they are unable to get bail. Mr. Harichandan was in the city to attend the ‘Sankalp Samavesh’ rally of the BJP, which was also attended by party general secretary Binay Katiyar. During his speech at the rally, he urged the striking lawyers to transform their mode of protest. He said the lawyers should start ‘token demonstrations’ for their demand instead of continuing cease work agitation which is making common people suffer. According to him, the State government is taking all possible steps towards establishment of High Court benches in Berhampur and western Orissa. But, Mr. Harichandan admitted that the demand for a High Court bench was a genuine demand. Several other BJP leaders, who attended the rally, also extended the support of their party towards the demand for High Court bench in Berhampur.
