‘Media managements should follow ethics’

Staff Reporter

NELLORE: Managements of print, electronic and new media should follow ethics in the wake of declining standards in journalism, according to Information and Public Relations Minister Anam Ramnarayana Reddy.

“With many of the journalists being forced to follow orders from the corporate owners, who have leaned towards a particular socio-political ideology, several media organisations have become ‘views’ media, which manipulate information to push their own agendas.

Another lamentable feature is erosion of the importance of the office of Editor, which used to enjoy enough freedom to articulate views and comments on contemporary events till the recent past.” Speaking after releasing the book ‘Kaalamtheerina Kalam Veerulu’ -- a brief compilation of journalists who had passed away -- penned by senior journalist K. V. Ramanaiah at the Press Club here on Sunday, Mr. Reddy regretted that the media, which was an integral and imperative component of democratic polity had become a tool in the hands of some powerful individuals.

Redeeming feature

But the redeeming feature was that by and large the national media and to some extent the regional media had not yet fallen to this kind of trivialisation and sensationalism.

Nellore MLA Anam Vivekananda Reddy, former MLA J. K. Reddy and others were also present.
