Students should have a passion to be different They should develop leadership qualities
COIMBATORE: The youth today are at a vantage position. They have the ‘luxury’ to make a career choice, said Thomas Simon, Head of Human Resource Deployment – India Geography TATA Consultancy Services, Mumbai, said here on Sunday.
Delivering the convocation address at the VLB Janakiammal College of Engineering and Technology, Mr.Simon said that in order to make use of the abundance of opportunities, one had to imbibe qualities such as accommodativeness, dynamism, and the desire to continue learning.
Working in teams, the courage to experiment with ideas and up-gradation of skills too were equally important to be able to move up the career ladder. Companies looked for excellence and the initiative in potential candidates. It was not enough to amass knowledge. It should be utilised properly.
Students should have a passion to be different. They should develop leadership qualities and have a positive attitude. Competency building too was important, he said. They should spend quality time with business managers and develop skills of observation, he added.
