State in midst of industrial revolution: Geetha Reddy

GUNTUR: The State is in the midst of an industrial revolution thanks to a record flow of investments and a booming export sector, Minister for Major Industries, Sugar, Commerce and Export Promotion J. Geetha Reddy has said.

Speaking to reporters here on the sidelines of a short visit to Guntur and Prathipadu towns on Sunday, she said the export sector which had netted close to Rs.5,000 crore till the year 2004 registered a three-fold growth and now stand at Rs.18,000 crore.

Stating the State Government has been striving to create a congenial climate for setting up of industries, she said ever since the Congress Government had assumed power, 6,092 new industries were set up.

The investments doubled when compared to that of previous regimes from Rs.4,500 crore to Rs.10,570 crore. The Government had allotted Rs.293 crore for creation of infrastructural facilities in this year’s budget, she said.

Among the major industries which have created massive employment opportunities, she listed out Apache India Limited with its base at Tada in Nellore district with has potential to create 30,000 jobs, the jems and jewellary industries at Ranga Reddy district with could create 94,000 openings and the petrochemical industries, which could create more than one lakh jobs.

Subsidy

The proposed Special Economic Zone between Kakinada and Visakhapatnam being established with Rs.3 lakh crores would have a number of petro-chemical industries and could create about three lakh jobs in the future, she said. Stating that the Government is committed for the welfare of women and SC/ST entrepreneurs, she said a subsidy of 40 per cent was being provided on institutional finance being provided to women entrepreneurs, while a subsidy of 35 per cent was being provided to SC/ST entrepreneurs.

Transport Minister Kanna Lakshminarayana, Prathipadu M.L.A Ravi Venkata Ramana, In Charge Collector Kantilal Dande and other officials were present.
