Spotlight on public transport sector

Bangalore: The Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) is hosting the three-day ninth Asia Pacific Assembly of the International Association of Public Transport (UITP) in Bangalore from Monday.

Over 100 delegates representing the transport sector from Asian countries will be participating in the assembly and sharing their experiences, according to a press release from BMTC Chief Traffic Manager Dastagir Sharieff.

This will be the first such event being organised by the UITP in Bangalore. Experts from India and abroad, top officials of the Union Transport Ministry will make presentations on various issues such as current public transport in India, financing of public transport, institutional organisation of public transport, best practice in promoting public transport, quality and sustainability, current development and future plans.
