Increase bus service

The number of buses between Tambaram East and Vengaivasal (via) Rajakilpakkam (No M51G ) is less and as a result, there is an utter chaos during rush hour in mornings and evenings.

Thousands of people, office-goers, school children, and workers have been using this bus service.

May I request the authorities to consider increasing the frequency of this bus service, at least, during rush hour.

Phone directory

Much inconvenience is being experienced by senior citizens to get the new telephone directory, as they have to carry three heavy volumes of the old directory all the way to the Telephone Office and stand in long queues to get the new one.

The Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited should open more counters to distribute the new directory or at least, a separate counter for senior citizens.

An early action by the Telephone Authorities in this regard will be welcomed by all.

Why should the BSNL insist on getting back the old directory from its subscribers and what will they do with them in this advanced age of technology?

Damaged EB post

In Muthulakshmi Nagar, Chitlapakkam, the Electricity Board post on Muthulakshmi Street remains damaged. It needs to be replaced at the earliest.

Also the EB posts on Maruthi Street and Saradambal Street are tilted on one side and pose danger. May I request the EB authorities of Chitlapakkam to take up the works on priority basis?

‘A pedestrian’s woe’

We live on Shenoy Road in Nungambakkam. It is also called North Madha Street and is diagonally opposite to the Nungambakkam police station and the Corporation Office.

The whole street is ‘unwalkable’. Vendors have occupied the platforms. Cars coming to garages on either side for repair works are parked on the pavements, on the road and sometimes in other parking areas.

Added to this is the filthy garbage piling up, giving comfort to mosquitoes, which in turn breed diseases.

After we pay our all taxes, this is what we have to bear with or live with.

Clarification

With reference to the news item published in The Hindu dated 21-2-2008, it is informed that the hand-pump shown in the picture is from T.P. Chathiram 5th Cross Street.

The hand-pump is having a wheel valve in its connection pipe and the valve is closed after collecting water from the pump by the residents. The hand-pump is used for collecting water by pumping whenever the free flow ceases.

The handle of the pump is taken out by residents and is used whenever required.
