Collector reviews implementation at a meeting of bankers and officials

MADURAI: The targets set for Centrally-sponsored welfare schemes, under implementation in the district, have been met well ahead of the deadline.

At a meeting of bankers and other top government officials, Collector S.S. Jawahar reviewed the implementation of the schemes.

Credit-deposit ratio

Lead District Manager KN. Subramanian said the credit-deposit ratio — an important indicator to ascertain the district’s development in terms of the ratio of advances to deposits, — stood at 103 per cent as on December 31.

Advances stood at Rs.6,562 crore, while deposits at Rs.6,355 crore. Priority sectors bagged 47 per cent (Rs.3,107 crore) of the credit, which was above the mandatory 40 per cent stipulated by Reserve Bank of India. Agriculture sector got 21 per cent (Rs.1,380 crore) of the credit, above the obligatory 18 per cent.

Under the National Horticulture Mission, a continuous scheme with no fund constraints and involving 50 per cent subsidy, around Rs.4.70 crore was disbursed under 1,772 loans.

“It aims to encourage farmers to undertake cultivation of remunerative crops such as banana, mango, amla, chilly, jasmine and ‘semangi.’ The Collector has expressed keen interest in increasing horticulture production in the district.”

Under the Swarna Jayanti Grama Swarozgar Yojana, which provided revolving funds and aided economic activities of self-help groups, the target of 728 was reached by February.

A sum of Rs.29.12 lakh was disbursed under the revolving funds scheme, involving a subsidy of Rs. 7.28 lakh.

For economic activities, against the target of 201 groups, Rs.4.36 crore was disbursed to 218 with Rs.2.16 crore as subsidy.

1,489 loans given

Under the Prime Minister’s Rojgar Yojana, under which loans were given to uneducated and unemployed persons for undertaking economic activities, 1,489 loans were given against a target of 1,450.

Around Rs.7.2 crore was disbursed with a subsidy of Rs.2.23 crore.
