Hike in milk price hailed
Staff Reporter
ERODE: Kangayam MLA Vidiyal S. Sekar and members of the Tamizhaga Vivasayeegal Sangam have welcomed the Government’s move to increase milk procurement price.
In a statement here, Mr. Sekar said the decision would help thousands of producers who had for long suffered the escalating cost of inputs on the one hand, and the low poor procurement price on the other. The Government would also do well to avoid the delay in paying the milk producers and remove the 50 paise disparity the Erode milk producers suffered. (The Erode producers are forced to undersell milk at 50 paise a litre for the past couple of years as per a Central and State Government plan to restructure the Erode milk cooperative union).
Farmers affiliated to the Sangam said the move to raise the procurement price of cow’s milk by Rs. 2 a litre and buffalo’s milk by Rs. 4 a litre would help to solve their problems. In a release, the farmers thanked the Government for removing the 50-paise disparity.
They demanded that milk union’s dues be paid to procurement societies.
