Petit Seminaire School goes on a talent hunt

PUDUCHERRY: There was a hunt for talent at Petit Seminaire Higher Secondary School, as over 450 students from 20 schools participated in the ‘Petit Kala Kiruthi’ to mark the International Women’s Day on March 8.

Students in the 3 to 10 age group participated in the function. A committee of 14 members judged the performance of the students.

Towards the eradication of leprosy and tuberculosis, students of Standard VIII of the school contributed Rs. 62,000 to the Indian Development Foundation.

Annual Day celebrations

It was an eventful annual day at St. Patrick Matriculation Higher Secondary School, as the academic performance of a number of students was recognised.

Celebrating its 17th annual day, the school awarded students who had secured high marks in the Standard X and XII public examinations. Educational scholarships were given to poor students, and certificates distributed to students who were regular to school.

The school also gave away prizes for the three best outgoing students. Apart from this, students excelling in sports events also received prizes on the occasion. Various cultural events were part of the annual day celebrations.

Competitions held

Children’s Kalai Ilakiya Valarchi Kazhagam conducted various competitions, including drawing, music, dance, chess, yoga, elocution and essay writing. A number of students were given the ‘Siruvar Kalai Sigaram’ and ‘Siruvar Kalai Sudar’ awards for their talents.

Model exam conducted

In the State-level Sanskrit model examination, conducted by the Sanskrit Academy of Chennai, a student of Standard XI Devada Sindhu received the first prize. Physics lecturer of the school R. Mohan Radje won the best science teacher award from the Department of Science and Technology, Government of Puducherry. He received the award from Chief Minister N. Rangasamy.

Sports day

The air was filled with excitement and enthusiasm at ‘Sporto Zeal’ – the annual sports day of Achariya Siksha Mandir and Sri Sampourna Vidyalayam.

Former Olympian and Arjuna award winner Sebastian Xavier and Senior Superintendent of Police V.J. Chandran participated in the sports day.

Students took part in aerobics, lotus drill, pyramid, dragon skills and taekwondo demonstrations. Founder of Achariya Group G. Cannaiyan presided over the day’s events.

Graded exams for spoken English

Achariya Bala Siksha Mandir held Graded Exams for Spoken English on March 3. It aimed at providing a reliable and valid scheme of assessment through which teachers and parents could measure the progress and development of their wards in educational and vocational activities.

It was organised by Orient Longman publishers. Twenty-three students took the test.

Fifteen teachers of the school participated in a training session on lexis and phonology.
