BHUBANESWAR: Exhibiting their concern for the development of children of their home-State, some 20 young but acclaimed artists of Orissa have come together in organising an exhibition of their paintings in Kolkata. The show that opened on Saturday at the Mon Art Gallerie in Hungerford Street would be on till the end of this month. Part of the proceeds from the sale of the art works shall be donated to Bhubaneswar-based Bakul Foundation that is engaged in children’s welfare through multifarious educational and cultural activities, besides running an exclusive library for the children in the city, informed foundation coordinator Sujit Mohapatra. “More than the financial aid for our project, what has been quite encouraging for us is the solidarity and concern shown by the artists for a cause. There are plans to have similar shows in aid of Bakul at least once every year,” he added. The artists are settled in various cities outside Orissa. They included Birendra Pani, Alok Bal, Tapan Dash, Pratul Dash, Sovan Kumar, Helen Brahma, Aparna Mohanty, Pratap Jena and Debarchan Rout. The show, christened ‘Dimensions and directions - contemporary Orissan artists’ was curated by noted scholar and art critic Deba P Patnaik.
