Premier French colleges to be represented in meet French firm to conduct scholarship interviews THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The ‘N+I’ Campus Engineering network of Campus France — the higher education office of the French Embassy in India — will organise a scholarship selection programme and a mini education meet for engineering colleges in Thiruvananthapuram on March 12 and 13. The meet in which 12 premier engineering institutions from France will participate will be held at the Hotel Classic Avenue, Manjalikkulam road, Thampanoor. The meet is being held in connection with the ‘N+I French Engineering Education Week’ being held by the French embassy in New Delhi, Thiruvananthapuram and Mumbai from March 8 to 15. Colleges interested in participating in the programme should register before March 11 and confirm participation in the meet that will be on between 2.30 p.m. and 6 p.m. 20 scholarshipsThe meet will also feature a presentation by the French company ALTEN that is offering full-expense scholarships for candidates to pursue masters education in engineering in France. Director of the Alliance Francaise, Thiruvananthapuram, Jose Marie Cotes said that 20 scholarships were up for grabs. “ALTEN is visiting three cities this time and the scholarships are for these cities put together. The company will select students from among those who have registered for the programme. Selection interview will be held for scholarships in Masters degree in computer science, electronics, mechanical and telecommunications engineering. We have registrations from about 12 engineering colleges in Kerala and Tamil Nadu. Apart from this anybody can attend the education meet,” he explained. Student exchangeAccording to the director, the representatives of 12 engineering colleges from France aimed at preparing the pitch for a student exchange programme between the two countries. The education exhibition is open to engineering students and institutions (minimum qualification is BE or B.Tech). This will take place on March 13 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the same venue. The exhibition will facilitate direct interaction between students and the representatives on options available for MS. and M.Tech programmes. Knowledge of French is not required for these programmes. Information on scholarships and visa will be given by the French Embassy officials, a press note issued by Alliance here said. Joelle Rayet, Consul General of France in Pondicherry will inaugurate the programmes on March 12. “This is an endeavor to forge closer relations between the French and Indian academia. This event is meant to enable French and Indian institutes to be able to identify and work on exchange programmes. Several participating institutes already have collaborative projects for student exchanges, laboratory internships for undergraduate engineering students, visiting professor and faculty exchanges and so on,” Mr. Cortes explained.
