PATIALA: The National Theatre Arts Society, Patiala, celebrated International Women’s Day in a novel way, honouring 24 women suffering from leprosy. The felicitation took place at a cultural programme produced by seasoned theatre director Pran Sabharwal and his wife Sunita Sabharwal at the Padma Shri Dr. Khusdeva Singh Leprosy Patients’ Colony here. Besides presenting an award, a shawl and assorted gifts to each of the leprosy patients, an amount of Rs.3,200 from out of the collections at the function were also gifted to the Kusht Ashram. Six other women honoured on the occasion included educationist Jagdish Kaur, mother of NRI Dr. Sawraj Singh, a noted scholar-surgeon, folk singer Santosh Rani Bains, theatre activist Sunita Sabharwal, social activist Veena Shahi, wife of prominent educationist Principal A.K. Shahi, and two NRI human rights activists, Hardev Kaur and Kulvinder Kaur from the US.
