VIZIANAGARAM: The grievances of workers in the unorganized sector could be solved only if the government changed its attitude towards them, according to S. Punyavathi, State CITU vice-president. Participating in a dharna at the Collector’s office here on Monday, Ms. Punyavathi said unless the government made allocations for social security in the Budget, the problems of anganwadis, mid-day meal and other contract workers in various government departments would remain unchanged. She appealed to the gathering of woman workers to participate in the ‘chalo Hyderabad’ programme on March 19 in large numbers and paralyse the administration. Dig at MinisterCITU district general secretary M. Srinivasa said several issues had come to his notice during ‘jeep jaata’ last week that include lack of medical facilities to workers in jute, ferro alloys and bulk drug industries in the district. He demanded that the government set up ESI hospitals in Salur, Merakamudidam, Bondapalli and Poosapatirega mandals for the benefit of workers. He criticised Minister for Housing Botsa Satyanarayana for remaining silent on the shifting of a dispensary exclusively set up by the Central government for manganese mine workers in Garividi three years ago. Leaders of A.P. Community Health Workers’ Union, A.P. Voluntary Health Workers’ Union, RWS Contract Bore Mechanics’ Association, Contract Panchayat Secretaries Sangam, Andhra Pradesh Anganwadi Workers & Helpers Union and many more unions participated in the dharna. Later, they submitted a memorandum to District Revenue Officer P.A. Sobha.
