Akshara Bharati third phase from March 25

Staff Reporter

Volunteers to be given training from March 17 to 24

Kakinada: The third phase of Akshara Bharati will commence in the district on March 25. It is aimed at educating 32,410 women members of DWCRA and Self-Help Groups through 2,142 continuing education centres.

Each centre will train 15 women, according to Deputy Director of Adult Education Department M. Ammaji Rao.

Officials, mandal literacy officers and motivators (‘Preraks’) will be given training from March 17 to 24 on the issues pertaining to the implementation of Akshara Bharati.

Akshara Bharati is an effort meant to reach the children from rural and underprivileged areas who have the will to learn, to read books and to make difference in their lives. Necessary steps are being taken to provide children access to different learning material.

The Adult Education Department has networked with some NGOs to achieve the goals and the help of volunteers is also sought to make the programme successful.

Team visit

Against this backdrop, a Central team will be visiting the district on March 15 to assess the performance of the Adult Education Department in executing the adult literacy programmes.
