KANNUR: A two-day international conference on ‘Globalisation, development, public policy and management’ ended here on Monday with a call to re-orient management education to ensure perfect synergy between private needs and public aspirations. Delivering his speech as chief guest at the valedictory function of the conference organised by the Kannur University Department of Management Studies at Kattampally on Monday, H.A. Shankaranarayana, Director of the Dayanandasagar Business Academy, Bangalore, said the younger generation should be trained in such a way that they can balance public and private dynamics effectively. He said the term ‘globalisation’ was catching the imagination of the modern civilisation due to various reasons, including the rapidity with which the world was getting integrated, new technology’s exponential destruction of institutions and values anchored in the spirit of nationalism and the universal impact of globalisation. Observing that the dichotomy between growth and development was getting widened, he said contemporary problems of development had to be located in an attempt to redress them. University Pro-Vice-Chancellor K. Kunhikrishnan presided . Department head P.T. Raveendran and teachers U. Faizal and Muhammad Razik were present.Several papers on different themes relating to globalisation were presented at the conference.
