KOLLAM: An accused in the Thazhuthala spirit smuggling case, Sathyan, was arrested by a special team of the police on Sunday night. He was produced before a magistrate court here on Monday and remanded to 14 days’ police custody. The arrest was made by Kollam DySP C.G. Sureshkumar who heads the special team. The Sub-Inspector of the Kottiyam police station opened fire at the driver of a van last week to seize the spirit consignment. The official claimed that he pulled the trigger when the driver tried to knock him down. The driver of the van, Hari, was hit by two bullets fired by the Sub-Inspector. Mr. Sureshkumar said that Sathyan owned a garage which was functioning as a spirit transit unit.
