Higher secondary examinations begin tomorrow

‘Cooling off’ time for candidates


Special question papers for the mentally challenged

Results to be published by mid May


THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The second-year higher secondary examinations will begin on March 12. This year, the examinations will begin at 10 a.m. and will go on till 12.45 for subjects that do not have practical tests. For subjects with practical, the examinations will end at 12.15 p.m.

A ‘cooling off’ time of 15 minutes will be provided at the start of each paper for students to read and digest the questions. The examinations in the old scheme will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.; there will be no ‘cooling off’ time for such candidates.

Candidates who did the course as per the grading-continuous evaluation system and those who studied last year and failed to gain eligibility should write the examinations in the new scheme. Those who studied during the years before that should write the examinations in the old scheme. Questions from the optional subjects will be given in Malayalam and English. Candidates should answer either in English or in Malayalam.

1,679 centres

The higher secondary examinations will be held in 1,679 centres including 10, in the Gulf States and 9, in the Lakshadweep.

As many as 4,00,222 candidates are scheduled to write the examinations. Of this, 2,04,434, are girls. 3,29,473 candidates will be appearing for the examinations for the first time. Of these 2,57,721 candidates did their course in regular schools while 41,126 candidates completed their course from open schools. 30,626 candidates will appear for the examinations under the ‘private registration’ category.

Maximum candidates

The maximum number of candidates will appear in Malappuram district (51,226) and the minimum number, in Wayanad (9,154). While 714 candidates will appear from Mahe, 1463 candidates will appear from Lakshadweep and 1,463, from the Gulf states.

There will be a superintendent, one deputy superintendent and assistant superintendents (one for 20 students) at each examination venue.

There will be specially designed question papers for candidates who are mentally challenged. The valuation camps will begin on April 2. The results of the higher secondary examinations are likely to be published by mid May, a press note here said.
