FUN TIME: A participant walks past anchor Suma in one of the rounds of Bandhan’s Women’s Day Celebrations in Vijayawada on Monday. VIJAYAWADA: It was an out-and-out women’s show that gave a platform to the fairer sex to indulge in unlimited fun and frolic that never seemed to cease. Bandhan’s Women’s Day celebration at Sesha Sai Kalyana Mandapam on Monday was a rocking show that had all the ingredients of a captivating affair. Television anchor Suma played the hostess and kept the audience entertained all through the day. Her distinct charm endeared many a heart among the audience. The participants’ foray into the action-packed day was well planned, as the events were slotted into categories of games and entertainment. There were no hoity-toity women strutting around in designer wear but it was an occasion for a middle class housewife to deviate from kitchen and de-stress by stepping into the entertaining world of Bandhan. Amazed at their newfound avatar, up close and personal, they revelled in the joy of the moment. Floral decorationBesides floral decoration in water that welcomed the visitors, the occasion had women jiving the beats of music that accompanied every event. There were funky games to laugh and enjoy and events like cheerakattu adirindi to pick the women draping a sari in a novel or best way. Talli ki pilla, pilla ki talla? was another interesting game inviting participation of mother-daughter duos to prove their collective talent. A couple of pairs looked so identical in terms of age that it was difficult for the audience to guess who was younger. The crowd was rewarded adequately in the form of ‘surprise gifts’ and no participant returned home without a bagful of goodies. Refusing to confine their roles to that of mere organisers, the 21-member Bandhan group also entertained their guests by matching steps to a medley of songs from the latest blockbusters. Bumper drawsBumper draws conducted at regular intervals had the organisers doling out gifts like washing machine, micro oven, dining table, air-conditioner and gold necklace. Above and beyond the merriment, the all-women festival gave the participants a chance to extend their social-cultural network.
