THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: As many as 150 patients turned up for a free one-day cardiac care camp held here on Monday under the auspices of the Sri Sathya Sai Orphanage Trust and KIMS Hospital. The patients were examined and medicines were distributed free. Director of Health Services K. Shailaja inaugurated the camp. Chairman of the City Corporation’s standing committee on Welfare P. Rajendra Das presided over the inaugural function. Executive director of the Trust Anandakumar was also present. Cardiologists G.Vijayaraghavan, V. Ramakrishna Pillai and K.S.S. Nair were among those who participated in the camp. The doctors stressed the need for a disciplined life to ward off cardiac complaints and remain healthy. They reported a high incidence of lifestyle-induced diseases like blood pressure and diabetes among youth. Medical interventionDr. Nair who is also advisor to the Saigram Hospital said doctors attending the camp had identified several patients who were in need of medical intervention like bypass surgery, heart valve surgery, angiogram and implantation of pacemaker. These patients, he said, were referred to the free super specialty hospital at Puttaparthy, Sri Chithra Tirunal Institute of Medical Science and Technology and the Medical College, Thiruvananthapuram. The patients and their helpers were given free food by Saigram.
