INTUC to launch stir

Special Correspondent

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The INTUC has accused the LDF government of total failure in maintaining law and order in the State. Addressing reporters here on Monday, INTUC State president R. Chandrasekharan and general secretary M.S. Rawther said the recent violence in Kannur was indicative of the breakdown of the law enforcement machinery.

Mr. Chandrasekharan said the LDF government was a failure on other counts also. “Traditional industries in the State were on the verge of collapse. The State government had failed to respond to the package announced by the Centre to revive the crisis- ridden plantations. Public sector industries were facing closure.”

He alleged that the CPI(M) was planning to acquire stakes in the companies born out of the proposed trifurcation of the KSEB. “Job opportunities were dwindling and employees in the IT sector were being exploited. The government had also failed to check the exploitation of migrant labourers.” Mr. Chandrasekharan said the INTUC would launch a State-wide agitation against the unprecedented price hike that had made life unbearable for the common man. On March 12, the trade union would take out a march to all District Collectorates.

This would be followed by a march to the Secretariat on April 10.
